Visareferent / Austauschreferent: Obwohl das F-1 Visum noch bis August 2009 gueltig ist, war das Visum nur fuer den Zeitraum gueltig, der auf dem I-20 angegeben war. Daher muessen Sie fuer Ihr Praktikum das Formular DS-2019 ueber eine Organisation und mit diesem Formular ein neues Visum (J-1 Visum) in einem U.S. Konsulat beantragen. Fuer ein Praktikum ist ausserdem das Formular DS-7002 („internship/ taining plan document“) notwending, welches Sie ebenfalls ueber eine Organisation erhalten. Sollten Sie in den USA vorhaben zu arbeiten, muessen Sie ein Arbeitsvisum beantragen. Der potentielle Arbeitgeber in den USA muss hierfuer eine Arbeitserlaubnis ueber das USCIS fuer Sie beantragen.

Visareferent / Austauschreferent: Every applicant applying for a B1/B2 visa or a Student Visa such as a F or J visa must first and foremost qualify for a visa by overcoming the 214(b) standard and showing that he or she has sufficient economic and social ties outside of the U.S. to demonstrate with certainty that he/she will depart the U.S. as required. It is very difficult as a third country national living in Germany without a permanent residence permit to demonstrate the necessary ties to overcome 214(b) and I encourage all applicants to think seriously about whether they have the sufficient economic and social ties before applying for a visa. If an applicant believes he or she overcomes 214(b) and she wants to study in the U.S., then the preferred way to apply is with the appropriate documentation for either a F or J visa. It is true that a B1/B2 visa can be used to attend language courses if doing so for less than 18 class hours per week, if the applicant otherwise qualifies for the visa.

Können Sie mir Beispiele für "to further a religious or charitable cause" geben? Hintergrund: Ich möchte gerne einen Freiwilligendienst in einem Studentenwohnheim in USA leisten. Meine Aufgaben umfassen dort geistliche, seelsorgerliche und missionarische Bereiche, z.B. Gespräch und Gebet anbieten, geistliche Impulse geben sowie die Mithilfe im Haushalt. Meine Motivation dafür ist Gottes Liebe ganz praktisch weiterzugeben (= religiöser Zweck). Kann ich für diese Stelle ein B1-Visum bekommen?

As a student, you are very limited in what kind of work you can do and how many hours a week you can work. Once you are accepted at a U.S. university, the international office at your school can help you with working in the U.S. You do not need a separate visa.

Marie2: Two years ago, I had a problem with entering the US. I did a huge mistake and learned my lesson. I did not have enough time to inform myself and trusted somebody who I thought knew about the visa situation in the US. I wanted to do a work experience in the US but had no visa. I was not allowed to enter of course. For the next five years after being rejected I need to have a visa even to travel to the US. Is that right? Visareferent / Austauschreferent: If you were turned away at the port of entry, you will need to have a valid visa to travel to the U.S. Whether or not your specific situation at the port of entry will impact whether or not you qualify for a visa depends on the specific facts involved. This can only be determined during a visa interview at the Embassy/Consulate.

It would be unusual for an applicant wanting to volunteer on an organic farm to qualify for this type of visa, however it would depend on the individual circumstances of the farm and the work that the individual would be doing. It would not be possible for the applicant to otherwise qualify for a B1/B2 visa as individuals going to the U.S. with a regular B1/B2 may not perform labor such as would be required when volunteering on a farm. It might be possible for the applicant to obtain an exchange visa, for example a J visa, if the organization was willing to work with the applicant to do so. Visareferent / Austauschreferent: You can not get an appointment without applying for a visa. A determination will be made at the time of the interview. Bring along as much information as you have regarding the incident and your future plans.

Visareferent / Austauschreferent: It depends on what happened two years ago. If you want to travel to the States, you need to apply for a B-Visa (Tourism). It is possible that you might need a visa for travel for a very long time. However, B-visa are usually valid for 10 years for GErman citizens.

Visareferent / Austauschreferent: Former denials are taken into account in future interview. This does not mean you will be denied a visa forever. A determination of each visa applicantion is made based upon the facts at the time of the interview.
