lovely: My daughter likes to do a praktika for 2 months in florida, Miami, in a big hotel. What kind of visa does she need and what is to do to enter the USA. While staying in the hotel, does the hotel has to pay for the practica or is this the decision of the hotel an what about the social security and health insurance? Thanks for all details.
Visareferent / Austauschreferent: Für ein Praktikum ist immer ein Visum notwendig, daß vor der Einreise beantragt und ausgestellt werden muss. Dabei ist es unerheblich, ob das Praktikum bezahlt oder unbezahlt ist, selbst-beschafft oder vermittelt. Für den Visumsantrag benötigen Sie das Formular DS2019. Theoretisch besteht die Möglichkeit, über den zukünftigen US-Arbeitgeber dieses Formular zu erhalten, doch finden sich in der Praxis selten Firmen, die bei dem Department of Homeland Security hierfür die Berechtigung eingeholt haben. Sie können das DS2019 aber über in Deutschland ansässige Mittlerorganisationen erhalten, die von offizieller amerikanischer Seite dazu ermächtigt sind. Eine List der wichtigsten Mittlerorganisationen finden Sie unter http://usa.fh-hannover.de (Index > Praktikum) Ob das Hotel eine Bezahlung anbietet liegt im Ermessen des Hotels, ebenso in Bezug auf Krankenkasse und SocialSecurity. Bei Praktika sind Bezahlungen aber eher selten.

silverine: What kind of visa do I need for a nonacademic program running 1 evening, 1 day and 1 morning each week for 10 months? Tourist visa because it is less than 18 hours per week? Do I need a health insurance? Can I enter on a one way-ticket, because the flight schedule doesn't allow me t buy the back-ticket yet?
Visareferent / Austauschreferent: It depends on the primary purpose of the trip. If the primary purpose is to study, you will need a student visa independant of the number of hours you spent in the classroom. If the primary purpose is tourism and this is a language class, you can travel on a tourist visa (B1/B2), but usually people are only allowed to stay in the U.S. for six month on a tourist visa. If you have a visa, you don't need a return ticket. Different programs require different types of health insurance - please enquire at your school.

KeinName: Hallo, ich hab mal ne Frage. ich habe im dezember 08 ein j1 visum beantragt für amerika. bin dann im jan 08 als aupair nach usa. bin dann aber im märz schon wieder nach deutschland zurückgekommenb weils probleme mit der familie gab. jetzt möchte ich mit einer anderen agentur wieder als aupair nach amerika gehen. ist es möglich dass ich das j1 visum nocheinmal bekomme? oder bekommme ich das j1 visum nur 1x im leben? Ich hab nämlich verschiedene Meinungen gehört und wollte jetzt hier mal nachfragen. Danke für Antworten
Visareferent / Austauschreferent: Nach den Vorschriften des State Department darf man nur einmal an einem Au Pair Programm teilnehmen ((p) Repeat participation. Exchange visitors who have participated in the Au Pair Program are not eligible for repeat participation. (http://exchanges.state.gov/education/jexchanges/ > Regulations). Zudem ist der Aufenthalt als Au Pair auf maximal 1 Jahr befristet.

Visareferent / Austauschreferent: In order to work  in the United States you need to be enrolled at a University. Only as a student can you participate in the Work & Travel Program. Birgit: I really would like to send my son for one semester to the Montrose High School in CO (January - May). Organizing it by myself (my son will be staying with very close friends of our family) without an exchange organisation I would like to know whether the school fee is to be payed nevertheless for a whole year (two semesters) or whether it is reduced for half a year. Visareferent / Austauschreferent: You have to proof that you have enough money to cover the cost of the first year of study (tuition, housing, books etc.). Ways to proof this include a receipt of tuition payment, sholarship information, bank account information and income information for yourself and/or your parents. The amount has to be available at all times, so you can not use an apartment as collateral.

zizo: Anybody can help me and tell me the "REAL" differencies between community colleges and the ordinary colleges and universities?and i mean the different in the scientific degree.

Das Foreign Medical Graduate Examination brauchen Sie nur, wenn Sie in den USA als niedergelassener Arzt oder Vollzeit in einem Krankenhaus arbeiten moechten.

lisa2: Ich möchte im Sommer in die USA reisen. Welches VIsum brauche ich wenn ich sechs Wochen bei einer amerikanischen Familie bin? Ist es möglich, dass ich in der Zeit einen Ferienjob / Aushilfsjob annehme, um etwas Taschengeld zu verdienen? Brauche ich dafür ggf. ein anderes Visum?
Visareferent / Austauschreferent: Mit deutscher Staatsangehoerigkeit koennen Sie ohne Visum bis zu 90 Tagen in den USA Urlaub machen, aber Sie duerfen in der Zeit keinen Ferienjob/Aushilfsjob annehmen oder zur Schule gehen. I´m a laboratory assistant (Chemielaborantin) and would like to study the bachelor in chemistry.I also have the german university-entrance diploma. Can you help with that topic, please?
Visareferent / Austauschreferent: Jede Universität entscheidet ueber die Anerkennung von Leistungen selber. Bitte wenden Sie sich an die Universitaeten direkt. In der Regel wird auch das Abitur, Fachabitur oder Fachhochschulreife verlangt.

chimelle: I have a question on J-1 Visa renew. I participate in the US Aupair program for one year. I had a very wonderful time with the host family. Both of us want me to extend the second year. My J-1 Visa will expire on July 1st. So can i renew my visa in the US or I can only do it in the US Embassy in China?
Visareferent / Austauschreferent: Please discuss this with your Au Pair agency to see what your options are. But if you do leave the U.S. after your visa has expired, in order to enter again you must have an interview at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate outside the United States before entering the country again.

matthias.fiedler: I have question concerning my internship in the US throughout the summer. I applied for a visa Typ/Class B1/ B2 in 2004 in order to work as an unpaid volunteer in NY for 12 months. My passports states that the visa expires in 2014. This summer I plan work as an unpaid intern in the US. Is my B1/B2 visa sufficient to do so? Or do I have to apply for a J-1 visa?
Visareferent / Austauschreferent: You need to get a J-1 Visa. Interships are different from volunteer work. But it is okay to have both visas in your passport. You need a J-1 visa for paid and unpaid internships independant of the length of the stay.

Isabelle2: i'm thinking about studying in the US after i am done with high school in germany. but american colleges or universities are very expensive to enter. are there any scholarships given by the american government or state because one of the colleges i am looking in does not offer any scholarships? and where can i get more information about those kind of scholarships if they exist? thank you!

cutelgirl: Ich studiere Pädagogik/Master und habe vor im Sommer ein 3-monatiges Praktikum mit Kinder- und Jugendlichen in Atlanta zu absolvieren. Welche legal sponsor Organisation empfehlen Sie? Einge Organisationen haben schon gemeint das diese keinen Sozialen Sevice fördern um ein J-1 Visum zu bekommen. Oder ist es ausreichend für dieses Praktikum ein B Visum zu bekommen wenn man von der Organisation bestätigt bekommt nur zu beobachten und nicht Hand an zu legen?

Danny0212: Hallo! Ich mache gerade mein Abitur und möchte danach gerne ein Praktikum in den USA machen. Ich habe Bekannte drüben, die mir das Praktikum privat vermitteln würden, könnte dies also ohne eine Organisation regeln. Welches Visum brauche ich hierzu? Und kann ich dann mit diesem Visum auch außerhalb des Praktikums mir etwas dazu verdienen? Ich habe gelesen, dass man zunächst ein Vorvisum namens DS benötigt. Yasmin: Our daughter is German and studies in Netherlands; she will study for 1 semester in the U.S.A in August; we learnt that she needs a J-1 visum. Where does she get the visum: in Netherlands or in Germany? If in Germany can she get it in Berlin? Can she go there at any time or is it only possible by appointment? Must she come personally? Visa are issued in Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich by appointment only. The applicant has to come personally. Usually, an appointment in summer is available within two weeks and if all the papers are in order, the passport will be returned within a week by mail. Bitte wenden Sie sich an die International Office oder bitten Sie Ihren Betreuer an der Uni, sich an die International Office zu wenden. Wenn Sie nur die Einrichtungen der Uni fuer die Forschung nutzen (Bibliothek etc.) und keinen direkten Ansprechpartner haben, keine Kurse besuchen etc. - also reine Forschung betreiben - koennen Sie den Aufenthalt auch mit einem B-1 Visum machen. Visareferent / Austauschreferent: Sie koennen als Au Pair in den USA arbeiten. Es gibt kein Visum, mit dem sie unabhaengig in den USA reisen und arbeiten koennen.

Visareferent / Austauschreferent: Ramy2: One year scholarships are usually offered by organization such as Fulbright or DAAD. Please contact the international office of the university you are studying at about this.

hossam2: how are u iam hossam ..i want to ask how much must i pay for the exams SAT or GRE to be accepted at the cholarship and if it is nessesary to have those exams before applying to the schoolarship
Visareferent / Austauschreferent: SAT and GRE are very different exams. The SAT is usually required for studying at the undergraduate level, the GRE for graduate studies. The fee for the exams differs. You need to check the application information for the scholarships you are interested in to see whether you need to submit a test score. cutelgirl: Gibt es generell die möglichkeit im sozialen Bereich in den USA ein Praktikum mit Kindern und Jugendlichen mit Drogenmissbrauch zu absolvieren. Oder werden diese bei den legal sponsor Organisation oder beim Konsulat in den meisten Fällen abgelehnt?
Visareferent / Austauschreferent: Praktika im sozialen Bereich sind generell moeglich. Aber es kommt auf die genaue Taetigkeit an, da Patientenkontakt und therapeutische Taetigkeiten nicht erlaubt sind.
